it jumped by the force

I got this poem (translated from Mandarin) in my Alternative Drawing class. We're supposed to translate this poem into an A2 sized drawing. Text and texture.

The Barren July

the tongue of July licks and sucks my eyelight
the active human body shrivels
i use the charm of ink to bring out the soul's skin texture
the drawing pins array the solemn stirring expressions on my face
and the undulating roars of metal clangour

the city on the easel lacks blood
the newly-built old city walls (??) languidly let
their clitoris turn towards the sun
i use brushwork to modulate the mood
a lemon turns away its face
that day the sun's remnant power crippled
diarrhoea has its glorious day
the old street sells best aphrodisiac pills

the cay of july leaps onto the roof
casting a baby's cries to and fro

release

Sometimes in life you just have to let things go.

Let go of all that hatred. Let anger just float away. Let revenge seep out of your soul and heart. You'll find that it's easier that way. Let other people win sometimes, winning isn't all that important any more. I think, that if you learn to let go, things wouldn't be half as bad as you think they are. If you let it go, you won't be affected. you won't get inflicted.

It's hard to let go. But once you do, and continue, you'll find that everything's all smooth sailing. You don't have to care about what people think, or what they say. The good points you take, and the bad points, you ponder. Process it, think whether it really is valid. If it is, then reflect on what's done. If it's invalid, then ignore it. Let it go.

Release yourselves from fear. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate and hate, leads to suffering. Sorry I just had to do that.

roots!

No not the metal song.

I think, on my path of becoming a fine artist, I've forgotten my roots. Stuff I was initially known for, was/is(?) good at. I think I've forgotten my illustrative roots. Those were easier times, just making sure things looked nice visually, whether it looked appealing and stuff like that. You don't have to worry about artist statements or concepts. You just have to worry about anatomy, if you're doing figures. Or some physics if you're doing anything that has movement. Like fight scenes. Or if you're drawing something from history then make sure you get the time line right. Easier stuff. Easy on the mind as well. I realise that it's quite hard taking what you have, improvising/using it to go somewhere else.

Illustrating is kind of a half taboo now.

kill

I don't get angry often. Even if I do it itsn't by a lot. But there is just one thing that'll make me explode and that's shit from computers and other electronic devices.

I get extremely annoyed by -

laggy computers
fucked up internet connection that keeps disconnecting for no apparent reasons
windows OS
retarded web browsers that don't load
stupid error notices that say 'unknown error'
even dumber troubleshooting notices that say 'unable to find/diagnose error'
pop-ups
VIRUSES
shitty lifespan of laptops
even shittier battery lifespan
how many fucking times do you have the (Not Responding) piece of shit?
windows HANG
unable to locate wireless connection (or something like that)

and many, many, MANY more.

Sucks man. Life is too full of shit already.

i love you babe. i dont really know how to say this. just that recently, you havent been yourself. you're extremely volatile lately. i dont know what to do, i dont know what to feel. sometimes i worry for you and sometimes i get annoyed by your impatience. sometimes i admit, i am at fault. but there are other times when you explode at small little things. today we almost argued because i wouldnt share a fried wanton with you. what's wrong sweetheart? can you tell me? can someone at least tell me some small hint of a solution. im sure both of us are unhappy with the current ups and downs. i dont know what im doing wrong. am i too lenient? too forgiving? or am i too harsh and insensitive?

gollum

I lost a lot of weight. I weigh about 52kg now. I used to be 56kg tops. 53-4ish is my average weight I guess. I could check if I am underweight but I forgot how to do the BMI thing. Oh wait, for all of life's answers, there is Google. Hold on.

Oh. It's 19.3

Anything below 18.5 is underweight. Anything above 25.0 is overweight so I guess I'm fine.

I think I'm not the only one who's thinking this but Digital and Time-based Media II sucks big time. I don't think it's Terrence. I just think it's the long hours you have to spend sitting in front of the com to do work. But Dzaki, don't you waste all of eternity on Facebook? Why yes, of course I do. Facebook is boring yes but it's a lot more enjoyable and less strenuous than Flash. Maybe it's just me. I just prefer a more hands-on thing.

And I miss doing intaglio. The inking process can be so..meditative.

Have you guys seen Jian Yao's drawing at the Hak Tai gallery? I want to learn how to do that. It's just awesome AND it's not super big. A big fail on me when I attempted the A1 elephant man trevvy thing. Very big fail. It's the crawl-into-a-big-hole-fail. Man that sucks.

And the Art Leadership thing. I'm having mixed feelings for it. Maybe it's the uncertainty.

monday

First, let's get some visuals into your head.

It is one in the morning. I got back from Julie's about an hour ago. I haven't showered, I haven't changed. I am in the living room using my laptop in front of the TV, at the living room table. TV's showing MTV Hits. The current mv is 30secs from Mars kings and queens or something. I dunno. I prefer metal. My brother is in his usual corner of the room playing his electric guitar. Practicing some off song that I might not like in the end, like Paramore or something. Don't get me wrong, he plays metal and all the other hardcore stuff. Visuals, there.

So here's the thing. Short one. Sometimes you think there are things that get in your way, generally school work, travel, weather, proposal and stuff like that. But the reality is, all the things that are in the way are there because you let them get in your way. And that shouldn't happen.

And nows-a-days I hit the sack the moment I get home. Which is different but it's no good I guess. While most people would say that sleeping early is good for you (I can agree to a certain extent) but most of the things you do after school (that's when you get home, like about 10-12) are also as important as sleep. That little bit of extra time could be well spent on researching what to write for your essay, proposal or artist statement. And who couldn't say no to checking mail and facebook?

It's just that these days are getting tired-er and tired-er. And I think I don't really like screen purintingu. At least not till CEE EM WAI KAY. Maybe I'll enjoy that.

inp 03

$65,1450-$100,701 per year. About $5k-$10k a month. Man that's still lower than a footballer's pay!

is a person trained by a human spaceflight program to command, pilot, or serve as a crew member of a spacecraft. In the United States, professional, military and commercial .. who travel above an altitude of 80km are awarded ASTRONAUT WINGS.

I wonder if they taste any better than buffalo wings.

When am I going to pick myself up, go to Straits Co., buy that large piece of A1 and do my Europe trip drawing?

Timetable just came out. OK it came out a while ago but I just checked it. A few new modules like Alternative Drawing and something something else. Professional practise is it? Can't remember. So not looking forward to that. Oh and there's also Landscape Drawing. TA-DA! After like a month and a half finally LOL. Not that we haven't done any.

A few changes. Mr Lim will be teaching us (FA2C) alternative drawing, Zhang BC will take landscape drawing and Terence will take us for Digital and Time-based Media. Fuck right? Terence is much unliked. But looking forward to Mr Lim's class.
